Project Life Cycle Vs. SDLC

Quite often, we confuse the terms Project Life Cycle (PLC) and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and use them interchangeably. While SDLC is the process of building an Information Technology system that intends to solve a business problem, PLC encompasses additional phases that comes into play even before the actual SDLC phase starts. In a nutshell - SDLC is a subset of PLC.

SDLC

For Services companies, before the actual SDLC starts, the Project Life Cycle kicks off when they respond to an Request for Proposal (RFP). RFP is followed by the prototyping and proposal submissionon. Once the proposal has been formally accepted and a Contract duly signed, the SDLC phase begins.
